Silver Springs Covered Bridge Pennsylvania

I just love this photo of Silver Springs bridge. It was located in Cumberland county, PA. It is part of the collection. It was destroyed in 1972 from a flood. This photo is from 1969, it was on a Kodak slide, that has lasted over 30 years. I think it restored really well, the colors came out great. My collection has several photos of Silver springs. Its just hard to imagine building a bridge 246 feet long without modern equipment in 1884, especially over water. I bet this was was a beauty when it was new. Even with it being 'aged' its still a beautiful covered bridge.
I do think that Pennsylvania should have tried to restore this bridge. Just looking at how beautiful it was even after years of neglect, tells of its importance to history of PA. Its importaint that generations after ours should be exposed to the history of the state. I still hold fond memories of going to covered bridges, mailpouch barns, mills, with my grandparents. Even at a young age I can still remember how peaceful the settings were. We were allowed to run across the wooden floors of the bridge, or look out the windows of many of the bridges down at the running creek under it. It is a memory that is unduplicated today. Nowhere else can one go and find tranquil peaceful times of the covered bridge generation.
