About the photo in Banner

Of all the photos that I have scanned I think this one is my favorite.
This is a photo of Silver Springs Covered bridge. It was located in Cumberland County. The date this photo was taken was 1969.
The bridge was builtover the Conodoguinet Creek in 1884 by John L Perchant. This 2 span bridge was 246 feet long, and 19feet wide. As you can see in the photo this bridge was in bad shape in 1969. It was destroyed in June 1972 by flooding from Hurricane Agnes.
*details about bridge was found at www.lostbridges.org This is a great site to do research on. Their database is growing all the time.
