Knox / Valley Forge Covered Bridge

Knox / Valley Forge Covered Bridge 38-15-15

Chester County, PA

Photo Date 1965

This bridge was built in 1865, and has been restored in 1996. Its 66 feet long, and was crossed by soldiers during the Civil War. the Fred Yenerall Collection. It is still standing in Chester County, Pennsylvania. There are 2 photos of this bridge in the collection at this time.

This is the same bridge, taken in 1980. While the collection does have more of this bridge, we just haven't had time to restore them yet. While doing some research for these photos, I came across this article::

Bridge closed: roof damage in 2006 http://www.dot.state.pa.us/Penndot/Districts/District6/D6Media.nsf/0/1729b1f317ecfbf085257185005baf52?OpenDocument it was closed for a few days due to damage on the roof, according to the article

"The bridge apparently was struck by a vehicle that exceeded the bridge’s posted
10-foot height restriction; the height restriction sign itself was also knocked
down."

This bridge was even marked on the front with the height limit of 10 foot limit, but still was damaged.
