Somerset County PA- King's Covered Bridge Being Restored

They have started restoration of King's Covered Bridge in Somerset County, They are hoping to have it completed by the end of 2007.

According to the Daily American They have gotten the floors torn out and they have plastic hanging on the sides.

King's covered bridge is not know when it was actually built, but a farmer name John King took over the bridge in the 1930's and maintained it. In 1994 the family gave the bridge to Rockwood Historical Society.

The bridge has a Burr truss and is 1 span . Its' between 120-128 feet and 12 feet wide.

It was rebuilt once in 1906 and bypassed in 1934 when John King bought it. It has been in the King Family for many years.

King's Covered Bridge Taken in 1968



The King's Covered Bridge which is 207 years old will be rehabilitated in 2007. It is in much needed repair. The bridge was built in 1802, then restored once in 1906. It was privatly owned by The King Family of Middlecreek township untill 2002. It is located in Somerset County, and crosses Laurel Creek. Its 114 feet long.
The Rockwood Historical Society in Rockwood PA has worked hard to obtain restoration funding of the bridge. There is an article today in the Tribune Democrate about the bridge here. The goal is to have it completed by the end of 2007. It is also hoped to have a hiking trail to the nearby Barronvale bridge which is a mile away.
